Communities in Schools

Beginning in January/ February 2024, Pleasants County Schools will join the WVDE and the Communities In Schools as a licensed partner. This will bring funding into the county to provide additional staff and resources to directly help students and their families. This funding is a state grant that will bring additional funding into the county to support students.

"Every student deserves an equitable opportunity to succeed in school and fulfill their potential."

"Whether it’s hunger, homelessness, emotional trauma, or a lack of access to basic medical care, students shouldn’t have to face these challenges alone. At Communities In Schools, we amplify the power of each student’s potential through an evidence-based model rooted in caring relationships."

"...our model is designed to address the impact of poverty from every angle. We build lasting community relationships—with businesses, volunteers, agencies, healthcare providers, and educators—to help students stay focused today, so they can go further tomorrow."

The school system will employ additional staff that will directly work with students. They will help obtain items such as food, clothing, and necessities, but will also help connect students and families to health/ medical care, social service, and other essential services. The new employees will be trained on how to provide wrap-around services to our families and connect them to local support agencies for services that are not directly provided to Communities in Schools. The new employees will be a support partner for our students and families.

School leadership teams, counselors, principals, and county-level directors will be trained and assist the new employees in helping understand students' needs that Communities in Schools will provide.

More details about Communities in Schools and what services will be provided to Pleasants County Students will be announced early in 2024.
